Children’s Dietetic Service

Our Children’s Dietetic Service is a specialist service supporting children and young people aged 0-19 who have faltering growth or complex feeding difficulties. This may include a number of specialist clinics, some of which may be integrated with other therapies.

Our team provides children, young people and their families with nutritional support to optimise their growth and development, as well as a number of specialist clinics.

If your child is admitted to hospital our team will ensure their nutritional care is handed over for the duration of their stay. Following discharge the team will continue with their care. 

Specialist areas include: 

• the management of all tube fed children

• specialist lactation support

• management of non IgE-mediated food allergy

Our service also provides advice and support for health professionals including training and guideline development.

How to access the service

Accessing the service is by referral only and children and young people must be registered with a Wirral GP.

Referrals can come from a range of healthcare professionals including health visitors, allied health professionals, GPs, paediatric consultants and midwives.
