National Shortage of ADHD Medications
NHS England have issued a notice regarding a national shortage of the following medications for the management of ADHD.
Methylphenidate prolonged release capsules (EquasymXL, Xaggitin XL, Concerta XL and Xenidate XL)
Lisdexamfetamine capsules (Elvanse) capsules
Guanfacine prolonged release tablets (Intuniv)
Atomoxetine capsules (Strattera)
The supply disruption of these products is caused by a combination of manufacturing issues and an increased global demand.
Currently the supply disruptions are expected to last for a few months.
Parents and carers are advised to try and source their medication from pharmacies that may have a supply available.
The national shortage of ADHD medications is undeniably a challenging situation. The ADHD foundation website has resources that may be of benefit during this time:-
