Serving as an Alternative Provision, Wirral Home Education Service is unique educational service which extends its compassionate arms to young people facing health challenges that hinder their attendance at mainstream schools. The overarching goal? To guide these children and young minds in their journey towards personal and academic growth.
At the core of this initiative is a team of dedicated primary and secondary teachers, each bringing a rich blend of experience, enthusiasm, and unwavering commitment to their roles. Complemented by a fantastic support system that includes teaching assistants and learning mentors, the Wirral Home and Continuing Education Service is more than an educational institution—it's a nurturing community.
Specialising in providing short-term education for individuals navigating medical and/or mental health challenges, the service aims to empower students, facilitating their seamless return to their original school or integration into a new educational environment.
Amidst the caring team stands Jolene, a therapy dog whose gentle and empathetic presence uplifts the well-being of the children served. More than just a furry friend, Jolene is an integral part of the team, contributing to the creation of a nurturing environment where children feel understood and cared for.
The teaching spaces at Wirral Home and Continuing Education Service are designed to cater to diverse needs. While some students receive one-on-one education at home, others are encouraged to attend individual or small group lessons at the Home Education Base in Pilgrim Street. The service recognises the importance of social interaction, and pupils are given opportunities to meet and socialise, enhancing their chances of achieving their goals.
The Nest, a designated relaxation area within the base, provides students with a comforting space equipped with couches, mindfulness activities, games, and a café. An expansive outside area adds a touch of nature, allowing students to engage in various outdoor activities.
The curriculum spans key subject areas, including Maths, English, Science, Animal Care, Art, Humanities, ICT, and Functional Skills. Responsive to individual needs and passions, the service strives to build on students' interests.
Every Wednesday afternoon, the Enrichment group opens avenues for learners to explore the local area, providing experiences beyond the classroom or home. From Crazy Golf to Geo Caching, the activities aim to broaden horizons and create memorable moments. The year concludes with a celebratory BBQ at Wirral Country Park.
