Health Services in Schools (HSIS) Youth Workers play a vital role in promoting the well-being of students in Wirral Secondary Schools. This week HSIS Youth Workers have been delivering drug and alcohol training to students from Claremount Specialist Sports College. 10 sessions were delivered over 2 days with the sessions aimed at empowering students, raising awareness about substance abuse, and equipping them with essential life skills.

People with special educational needs and disabilities often face additional challenges when it comes to understanding and managing issues related to drug and alcohol abuse. These challenges can be attributed to various factors, including communication difficulties, cognitive impairments, and a lack of accessible resources tailored to their specific needs.

The drug and alcohol training provided by the youth workers at Claremount School goes beyond traditional education. It aims to empower students by imparting knowledge and equipping them with practical skills to make informed choices and navigate potential risks associated with substance abuse.

The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including understanding the risks and consequences of drug and alcohol abuse, recognising peer pressure, developing refusal skills, building self-esteem, safe drinking habits and accessing support networks. By fostering an open and non-judgmental environment, the youth workers encourage students to ask questions, express concerns, and engage in meaningful discussions about substance abuse.
